Depicting an adolescent definitely not reading his own mind but trusting his guts  to interpret his present.  What he sees is a two-headed hybrid being mired in a fire, undecided what direction to take. Or perhaps he catches a glimpse of a life spent in passion, ephemeral but meaningful, free to walk away and free to focus on any avenue for self-development.
