Two Ukrainian Angels
Mixed Media on Polystyrene (2024) 100 x 100cm
The vision underpinning this work was inspired by the war in Ukraine. The moose symbolises the big outdoors of the Russian steppe and the series of shrines put on stage the bewilderment, the bereavement and the misery of the man on the frontline. The two angels hovering over the scene are fused in harmony and remind me of the icons of Andrej Rublev. They pacify the angst of the whole ensemble with a sort of magic performance. Two graves are bound by ropes to a sail, as if the soul of the dead are also destined to float away. The moose carries tree bark in her antlers and the angels have Murano glass shards insets.
