BIOGRAPHY

Pier Forlano is an artist known for his impactful expression of the concept of fragility, in its different manifestations be they psychological, political or territorial. He uses multimedia such as tree bark, paper layering or model figurines and techniques that vary from acrylic to collage, from bas-relief to miniature dioramas. His mission is to build a connection with the spirit of the new millennium and post-industrial era and meditate on the limitations of the human condition. The main tenets of his production are sculpted paintings that add a depth to the vision. Recurrently Pier Forlano deals with themes of separation from other human beings, from nature and the desire to recuperate feeling and tackle unconscious taboos. Tribal art, surrealism, symbolism and graffiti art remain his possible inspirational starting blocks, together with big political topics such as environment and the populist parties.

His diplomatic career has taken him to many continents, putting him in contact with different cultures and a stunning variety of images, political and social issues, which define and inspire his work.

Pier Forlano has exhibited in Philadelphia, Manhattan (Salmagundi Gallery), Brussels (Italian Institute of Culture, Aspria Club, Maison Stepman), Courcelles (La Posterie).

He was awarded an honorable mention and he appeared in virtual exhibitions (Art Box Project, Miami, Greenpoint gallery, NY) and magazines such as Circle Foundations for the Arts. Two of his major artworks have been bought by the Stephen Klasko Art Collection. Two of his main paintings have been leased by the prestigious Palais des Beaux Arts of Charleroi (Belgium) and are been presently on show there.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a multimedia painter interested in bringing to the surface personal narratives about fragility, be they psychological, political or environmental.

I believe that the role of the artist is to show the spirit of the time in which he lives, to be distinguished for an activity that is typically human, and to do so with the ability to be understood in any place and space.

My intentions are shining a light on the untold and uncomfortable or revealing a strong emotion, expressed through captivating aesthetics. The two elements that differentiates my art are the constant drive to share my inner life and a peculiar rendition of paintings which often feature bas reliefs.

After having imagined a strong project, I seek perfect balance among black and white, geometry, colors and associations. However, decorating with style or to a peculiar eye effect is not enough for my concept of fine art.

I have been mainly inspired by symbolism, tribal art, surrealism and graffiti art. The desire to experiment with different materials permeates my entire production, which spans from collage to layering, assemblage and even the introduction of real objects and figurines into the paintings. The ultimate result is never abstract and gives away clues to the underlying story-telling.
